POSITION OVERVIEW:
We are looking for a detail-oriented and highly organized Controller to join our team of dynamic, expanding companies. Reporting to the President and working closely with our Fractional CFO, the Controller will oversee daily finance operations, supported by an accounting team, with responsibilities
covering the general ledger, financial reporting (US GAAP), payroll, accounts payable, and accounts receivable. The Controller will be instrumental in ensuring that Terrain has the systems and processes in place to drive our growth objectives. This role will also partner closely with the ownership group and business unit leaders to align financial functions with operational goals. Our ideal candidate brings robust technical expertise, a business-focused analytical mindset, a keen attention to detail, and excellent interpersonal skills.
Responsibilities:

Oversee the month-end close process to ensure timely completion, managing accounts receivable, accounts payable, bank reconciliations, and all related general ledger activities.

Manage cash flow and prepare related financial reporting.

Oversee accounts payable and receivable functions, ensuring timely and accurate processing.

Maintain effective communication with vendors, suppliers, and internal stakeholders to resolve inquiries and streamline payment processes.

Collaborate with cross-functional teams, such as procurement and project management, to ensure accurate and timely expense recording for ongoing projects.

Monitor the accounts payable aging report, taking proactive steps to address overdue payments and ensure timely vendor payments.

Contribute to process improvement initiatives within the accounts payable function, aiming for enhanced accuracy, efficiency, and effectiveness.
QUALIFICATIONS:
- Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field is preferred.
- Proven experience as a Controller or in a similar financial management role ideally within the construction /real estate industry
- Expert knowledge of General Ledger, consolidations, month end close process, and GAAP.
- Proficiency in accounting software and ERP systems Advanced proficiency in accounting software and Microsoft Excel. Experience with Procore a plus.
- Excellent attention to detail and accuracy, with the ability to identify and resolve discrepancies effectively.
- Knowledge of real estate development processes and terminology is a plus.
- Effective communication skills, both written and verbal, to interact with vendors, team members, and stakeholders.
- Exceptional organizational skills and the ability to manage multiple tasks and deadlines simultaneously.
- Analytical mindset with a problem‑solving orientation.
- High level of integrity and professionalism when handling sensitive financial information.
